The next day when he is walking down a street and every time he gets to a curb, he calls out to Allie, and asks for his help to make it to the other side. He decides that he is never going home again or talking to anyone again. He goes to Pheobe's school and leaves a note saying that Phoebe is to meet him at the Museum. Phoebe arrives at the Museum and wants stay with him. He says she can't go with him. She gets mad and gives him his red hunting back. They go the zoo. They are walk on opposite sides of the street. they are mad at each other for a while and he tells her to ride the carosel.

Holden goes to Mr. Antolini's. They have dinner and Holden has had a lot to drink. They start to talk about why Holden got kicked out of Pencey. Holden said that he did not like Pencey and Mr. Antolini was arguing that it was not a good reason to be like that and that he needs to do something with life. Then they go to sleep. When Holden is sleeping, he feels a hand rubbing his hair It is Mr. Antolini and Holden freaks and thinks that Mr. Antonlini trying to make a move on him and he leaves.

why does he freak out about he homosexual thing and not ask him what he was doing?

I Holden calls up Mr. Antolini, one of his old English teachers and tells him that he has been kicked out of Pencey. Mr. Antolini invites Holden to stay at his house if he wants to. After he gets done talking to Mr. Antolini, Holden asked Phoebe to dance. They dance for awhile and the door opens. Holden goes into the closet and his mom tucks Phoebe into bed. After she leaves the room, Holden gets out of the closet and decides he is going to go to Mr. Antonlini's house. Phoebe gives him her Christmas money and Holden gave Phoebe his red hunting hat that he has worn a lot. this is big because holden was really atached to that and it was sort of his security blanket.

holden goes back to his sisters room and explaines what happened about Pency. He starts to think about James Castle, a boy he used to know. Phoebe is still very mad and says that he doesn't like anything. Holden gets mad and says that is not true He says he likes Allie, but Phoebe reminds him that Allie is dead. Then Holden tells her that he wants to stand on the cliff and save the people that are about to fall off of it. He says that he wants to be the catcher in the rye.

why doesnt Pheobe support him more?

Holden arrives at his apartment and takes the elevator up to his house. When he gets there, he goes into Phoebe's room but she is not in her room. He then goes to D.B's room. Phoebe likes to sleep in there when D.B. is gone. he sees her . He goes through some of her notebooks. He wakes her up and is excited that he is there. She explains what has been going on and what she had been doing. She finally realizes that Holden got kicked out of Pencey. He tries to explain what he did, but she says that their dad will kill him. She gets very mad and puts her head into her pillow.after the argument he goes to smoke.

why doesnt he just stay home and work instead of school cause it is obviously not working for him?

When Luce leaves, When Holden leaves the bar he is very drunk. He calls Sally in the middle of the night. Sally is mad at him for calling because it woke both her and her grandmother up. Holden then goes to the park to see the lake and the duck she tries to get sober so he puts his head in the water and his hair freezes .He says that he missed Allie's funeral and then gets really depressed again. Holden really wants to see Phoebe so he leaves the park and decides to go home.

why does he go to the lake when he knows the ducks are not there?

At the beginning of this chapter, Holden is at the bar he starts to think about Lucy and how he used to talk to kids about sex. Holden thinks that Luce is a funny guy and all, but he is a phony. When Carl arrives Holden starts to talk about sex and all, but Luce doesn't want to talk about anything like that. Then Luce tells Holden that he needs to see a doctor and get some psychoanalysis. Holden rememberd that Luce's dad does some psychoanalysis and Holden asks Luce if his dad has ever analyzed his own son. At the end of the chapter, Luce gets mad at Holden and leaves the bar.


why does holden ask lucy that question?
